About Us
The Foundation for Economic Research and Training (FERT) is a registered, non-profit, non-governmental institution with the objective of carrying out socio-economic research and training in Nigeria, Africa and the developing world.
FERT was established in 1995 to fill the gap existing between rigorous socio-economic research and reality. The output of such research would be useful to policy-makers and technocrats as they attempt to address problems of poverty and underdevelopment.
Capacity building and training remain essential for instilling new skills, techniques, and re-tooling present and future generations of technocrats and policy-makers in an ever-changing global environment.
The Structure
FERT is structured as follows:- A board which sets policy, provides support for the annual programme of activities as well as approving the yearly work programme and budget.
- Secretariat in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria as well as a branch office in Lagos, Nigeria’s business capital. The secretariat administers the programme and facilitates the work of researchers and resource persons.
- The work of FERT is supported by a team of experienced Senior fellows and Associates drawn globally from the academia, government and the private sector.
